Selected Stories
A digital anthology on travel, home, and life
“A man who has been in another world
does not come back unchanged.”
— C. S. Lewis
I will always remember the first family of matryoshka dolls I bought as a traveler, from a tucked-away shop in the old town of Tallinn, Estonia. I carried them back to my new flat in London — my first home-away-from-home in the world — where they took up residence on my window ledge.
More nesting dolls were added to my collection over the years. And as I continued traveling and living in different cultures, I found that just like a set of matryoshka dolls, I too grew another layer in each place: my original American self accumulating new iterations in England, New Zealand, and India — all places I called home for a time. Gradually, I became a self nested within selves.
Now, after ten years of traveling as a writer and artist, I’m proud to present this curated collection of my favorite stories. They all celebrate the transformative power of journeys: Travel can change us, send us off in new directions, and — sometimes when we least expect it — help us feel at home.
